Vulnerable Populations Outreach Coordinator – City of Plainfield 

  • Full Time, Bilingual preferred
  • The VPOC will increase local public health capacity to investigate, trace, contain, mitigate and prevent COVID19 through targeted outreach to vulnerable populations. VPOC will work to ensure at-risk residents in their
    communities have access to support services such as housing, insurance coverage, and unemployment
    compensation to allow them to isolate or quarantine effectively. VPOC will conduct an assessment of
    vulnerable populations in their jurisdiction and develop a strategic plan to test, contact trace, contain, mitigate
    and prevent COVID-19 in these populations. The VPOC will work with the LHD leadership and governing body
    to oversee implementation of the strategic plan to ensure timely testing, contact tracing and containment of
    COVID-19.
  • This position is full-time and supported through a (2) two-year grant awarded by the New Jersey Department
    of Health (DOH). The jurisdictional LHD will provide direct supervision of this position. Work location and fulltime work hours may be flexible, as determined by LHD.
  • EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree preferred in public health, public administration, social work or related field.
  • EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of full-time professional experience/project coordination and/or community
    outreach, preferably in a public health-related or social service agency.
  • LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a
    vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

  • Registered Environmental Health Specialist – Bilingual – Full Time
  • Under direction, performs sanitary inspection and environmental health work involving in the enforcement of
    relevant sanitary, environmental, and public health laws and rules within the concerned jurisdiction; conducts
    inspections, investigations, and educational outreach activities; performs other related duties as required and/or
    necessary.
  • EDUCATION: An active Registered Environmental Health Specialist License/Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor’s
    Certificate issued by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services is required. Bachelor’s degree
    with a minimum of 30 credits in Natural & Health Sciences desirable.
  • EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one (1) year of experience is also required.

Garden State Environmental, Inc, Environmental Specialist Internship

Garden State Environmental, Inc. (GSE) is an environmental, health and safety (EHS) consulting firm, in business since 1985. We have an immediate opening for an Environmental Specialist Intern. This entry-level part-time position offers an exciting opportunity to learn about the EHS field and to obtain practical hands-on experience. Work involves conducting field investigations including testing and collecting environmental samples to evaluate indoor air quality, water intrusion, mold, asbestos and related environmental health issues.

This position will start as a paid Internship with an initial average of 25 hours per week expected. GSE will provide intensive training through working directly with, and being mentored by seasoned EHS and Industrial Hygiene professionals. GSE will also pay for additional continuing education classes to supplement GSE training that may result in the Intern obtaining certain professional certifications or licenses. If the Internship is successful, this position may lead to full time employment.

The position requires routine travel to our client locations throughout NJ, metro NY and eastern PA. Some overnight travel and weekend work may be occasionally required. Flexibility in working from home office is possible. All expenses will be paid by GSE.

Applicants should have at least a bachelor’s degree in a scientific or related field. Some experience in conducting environmental inspections and a basic understanding of building construction is desired, but not required. We are looking for a bright hard working grad who can take direction and who has a strong interest in getting started in this varied and growing field.

Candidates must have the physical ability to complete essential job tasks and to work independently and as part of a team, have strong verbal and written communication skills, good organization skills and must be dependable, disciplined, flexible and detail oriented.
